Primary filing period begins Tuesday

WARREN, Ark. – It is time for candidates seeking office in party primaries to begin filing.

The filing period in Arkansas begins noon February 22 and ends at noon March 1, 2022. This includes candidates running for county and state offices, as well as municipal governments that choose to allow candidates to run in party primaries. Many cities, such as Warren, have chosen to have all municipal offices be required to run as independents. Therefore, no person planning to run for city office in Warren or other cities that have selected the same process, will be filing during this time period. The municipal races will file later in the year and be on the general election ballot in November.

It should be noted that candidates for county and state offices are allowed to run as independents if they qualify for the office. They must file by petition. Check with the county clerk for specific information.

To file for office on the county level go to the county clerk’s office during the time period of noon February 22 through noon March 1. For information about the process and filing fees, contact the
County Clerk by calling 870-226-3464. Candidates for state offices, including state representative and state senator, will have to file at the State Capitol in Little Rock.
