Thomas C. Brunson Elementary School is encouraging students and families to help stock the Brunson Food Closet through a food drive scheduled for October 12 through November 6.
The school is collecting non-perishable food items that children can easily prepare on their own or heat in a microwave. The effort is aimed at keeping the school’s food closet stocked with convenient, kid-friendly options.
Suggested donations include ramen noodles, Easy Mac, Chef Boyardee, Pop-Tarts, granola bars, bottled water, juice packets, fruit snacks, cheese crackers, oatmeal, popcorn, chips and other easy-to-prepare foods.
School officials ask that families not donate canned goods, as the food closet is specifically accepting items that children can safely prepare without parental supervision or easily heat in a microwave.
To encourage participation, the school is adding a little friendly competition. The class that collects the most food items during the drive will earn a pizza party.
The food drive will run for nearly four weeks, giving Brunson families an opportunity to contribute items that can help support students through the school’s food closet.
