MONTICELLO, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello Department of Athletics is proud to announce the introduction of the Charlotte Award, a new weekly player-of-the-week recognition honoring Weevil student-athletes who not only excel in their sport but also exemplify the values of courage, teamwork, and excellence.
Established in honor of Charlotte Ruthe Wilkerson, the award serves as a tribute to a young girl whose remarkable strength and unwavering spirit left a lasting impression on those around her.
The Charlotte Award recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate the same qualities that defined Charlotte’s life, celebrating individuals whose character, determination, and attitude make an impact far beyond the playing field.
The Wilkerson family shared the following statement on the establishment of the award:
“On behalf of all of Charlotte Ruthe Wilkerson’s family and friends, we are honored and thankful for the university to present an award that stands for everything Charlotte was about. You couldn’t find a little girl that fought through so much adversity but still took on life with the best attitude and a smile everyday. It was a different setting than these great athletes, but the same core principles needed to excel.”
The award’s name represents nine core values that embody Charlotte’s legacy:

– A – Attitude
– R – Resilience
– L – Love
– O – Outstanding Effort
– T – Tenacity
– T – Teamwork
– E – Excellence
“The opportunity to honor Charlotte’s legacy through this award is something that means a great deal to both the local community and to me,” said Assistant Athletic Director Ryan Tow. “Having known her family for years, I understand how much this recognition means to them. I hope this award becomes more than a weekly recognition, but a reminder that the greatest impact we can make isn’t always measured by wins, losses, or statistics, but by the impact we have on those around us.”
Beginning next week, UAM Athletics hopes to carry Charlotte’s legacy forward by celebrating student-athletes who demonstrate these values through their actions, leadership, and commitment to those around them.
