Warren, Hermitage Mayors Declare October Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Encourage Residents to Wear Purple Thursday

The Warren Woman’s Club and Mayors Gregg Reep and Matt Cathey in conjunction with  the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence are  raising awareness about domestic violence and showing support for survivors in Bradley County.  Mayors of Hermitage and Warren have declared October as DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS month and Thursday, October 15,  as PURPLE DAY.

Domestic Awareness Month and October 15, Purple Thursday–Wear Purple Day,  provide an opportunity for citizens of Hermitage, Warren,  and Bradley County to learn more about preventing domestic violence and to show support for the organizations and individuals who provide services and assistance to victims of domestic violence.

Because Domestic Violence affects citizens regardless of race, age, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds, Bradley County’s communities, educators, churches,  and business leaders are encouraged to promote this effort by displaying “HELP” information and phone numbers on restroom mirrors at their local facilities provided by the Warren Woman’s Club and Options’ Crisis Center.   Citizens can show support and honor to all those impacted by domestic violence–survivors and victims–by wearing purple on Thursday, October 15,

In previous years in October, the Warren Woman’s Club with the help of SEACBEC met with high school students in Hermitage, Warren, and area schools  to heighten awareness of the societal issues of domestic violence, human trafficking, and the “red flags” of physical abuse.  During the small group presentations, students received Domestic Violence Awareness—Break the Silence wristbands and publications furnished by Sheriff Herschel Tillamn and his staff and Optons, Inc. in Monticello, also serving Bradley County.

This year the Warren Woman’s Club will be placing “HELP” information on restroom mirrors in restaurants, businesses, churches, schools, and other establishments where permitted.  The 2026 theme is #Every1KnowsSome1 and “With Survivors, Always.”           For help call:   911
