JOPLIN, MO. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s golf team opened play at the MSSU Men’s Fall Invite on Monday in Joplin, Missouri. The Boll Weevils completed the opening 36 holes in 11th place heading into Tuesday’s final round.
The Weevils posted a combined score of 613 (+37) through the opening two rounds at Twin Hills Country Club. Arkansas-Monticello recorded a first-round score of 307 (+19) before improving by one stroke in round two with a 306 (+18). Arkansas Tech finished day one atop the leader board at 17-under par (559), followed by Henderson State in second at 7-under par (569). Northwestern Oklahoma State held third place at 2-under par (574), while Southern Nazarene finished fourth at 4-over par (580), and Drury rounded out the top five at 5-over par (581). Four of the top five teams represented the Great American Conference.
Holtz Helms led the Boll Weevils on day one, finishing tied for 31st place at 5-over par (149). Helms posted an opening-round score of 73 (+1), followed by a second-round score of 76 (+4).
Landry Rogers finished day one tied for 40th place at 8-over par (152). Rogers recorded a first-round score of 77 (+5) before improving in round two with a score of 75 (+3).
Carson Slaughter closed out the opening day tied for 50th place at 11-over par (155). Slaughter posted a first-round score of 78 (+6), followed by a second-round score of 77 (+5).
Luke Riney finished day one tied for 57th place at 13-over par (157). Riney carded an opening-round score of 79 (+7) before improving by one stroke in round two with a 78 (+6).
Mathew Bouley rounded out the Boll Weevils’ lineup in 66th place at 21-over par (165). Bouley posted a first-round score of 82 (+10), followed by a second-round score of 83 (+11).
The Weevils will play the final round of the tournament, tomorrow Tuesday, October 20.
