Six of the seven members of the Warren School Board were present Monday evening, April 11, 2022 for the monthly meeting of the Warre School Board.
A number of monthly reports were given, including the financial statement and updates from each school administrator, as well as the Assistant Superintendent. The Board approved personnel matters
and then approved the following:
- Special Education Assurances and Agreement for school year 2022/2023
- 2022/2023 certified salary schedule
- 2022/2023 classified salary schedule
- 2022/2023 transportation salary schedule
The Board then appointed Board President Jerry Daniels to serve on the Gray-Weiss Committee to help select outstanding teachers for the award.
After a brief report from the Superintendent on the work ongoing to continue school after the High School fire and new construction activities of the elementary school and arena, the floor was opened for public comments. One parent addressed the school and voiced her concern about bullying she indicated was taking place. The parent spoke on behalf of her child and for another parent, who was present, whose child is also being allegedly bullied. The parent stated this was an issue that has been ongoing
for some time and she could not get satisfactory action taken by school administrators. She asked what needed to be done to guarantee a safe and secure environment for her child and all others. She asked that those students doing the bullying be dealt with appropriately.
Superintendent Cornish stated he was unaware of the specific complaint, but would be more than willing to sit down with her, and others, to discuss the specifics of the allegations. Mr Cornish stated the school has regulations to follow in any matter such as this, and he agreed completely that all students should be able to attend and learn in a non-bullying environment. The parents agreed to meet with Mr. Cornish.
Dr. Kerry Pennington, Vice Chairman of the Board, stated he had talked to parents about bullying issues and he too was very concerned. He told the Board that procedures may need to be reviewed to adequately address any such matter. He stated it must be fair but effective, and while he does not want to expel any student, the school cannot allow students to be bullied and feel unsafe and uncomfortable.
