Arkansas Press Association confirms The Eagle Democrat is in the process of being sold to Alabama company

WARREN, Ark. – The Arkansas Press Association has confirmed salineriverchronicle.com’s earlier reporting that Warren’s hard-copy newspaper, The Eagle Democrat, is in the process of completing a deal to be sold to Smith Newspapers, Inc., the company which owns the Advance-Monticellonian.

In a Facebook post, the Arkansas Press Association says that a “verbal agreement has been reached” to keep The Eagle publishing. “The deal will be finalized in the coming weeks, but there will be no break in publication,” says the Press Association.

Tom White, the publisher of the Advance-Monticellonian, will serve as publisher of The Eagle Democrat as well. White is a member of the Arkansas Press Association Board of Directors.

The company which is set to purchase The Eagle Democrat, Smith Newspapers, Inc., is based out of Fort Payne, Alabama.
