Gustava Nell Johnson, 1930-2022

Gustava Nell Johnson Clements, age 92, passed away October 16, 2022 in Rison, Arkansas. She was born on April 24, 1930, in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, to T.A. and Ressie Odelle Bennett.

Nell was the middle child of seven children born to this union. She grew up in Battiest, Oklahoma, in the Kiamichi Mountains in southeastern Oklahoma. There were also seven half brothers and sisters. In 1947, Nell married James Kenneth Clements of Banks, Arkansas, soon after he was discharged from the U.S. Army. They made their home in north Bradley County, Arkansas. Here they made a living farming, raising tomatoes, cotton, cattle, and whatever else they could to provide for their family. Nell worked at Fordyce Apparel Sewing Factory and Rison Garment Company.

Their marriage was blessed with three children, Linda Carolyn, Wanda Sue, and James Larry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Kenneth and her son Larry, twelve siblings and her great-granddaughter, Jade Anderson. She is survived by daughters Linda Gavin (Don), and Sue Arrowood (Glenn). Also surviving is a sister, Charlene Pierot and two sisters-in-law, Karen Johnson and Juanita Branson. Nell was the proud grandmother of six granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Darian McGee, Steve Anderson, Todd Orr, Scott Taylor, Mark Reppond and Jeremiah Clark.

Honorary pallbearers are Frances Taylor, Donna Anderson, Amy McGee, Jennifer Orr, Sarah Reppond, and Madelyn Clark.

Officiants will be Brother Billy Britt and Reverend Boyd Savage.

Nell was a lifelong member of Wagnon United Methodist Church in the Wagnon Community in north Bradley County.

The funeral service was 2:00 pm, Friday, October 21, 2022 in the chapel of Frazer’s Funeral Home in Warren, Arkansas. Interment was in Williams Cemetery.
