UAM sorority steps in to support two local children battling illness

“Sigma Serves Children” is one of Tri Sigma’s Philanthropic Initiatives on the national level.  The members of Tri Sigma at UAM put that initiative into real life practice when they heard about local children Andy Boykin and Sophie Mendez, both battling brain tumors. Each member felt personally called to action, and immediately began brainstorming and working to find a way to support their cause.

On Saturday, February 4th, the members of Tri Sigma hosted a fundraiser in Warren, AR to help support the families in this time of need. This event raised over $1,000 to benefit Andy & Sophie and their families. The community outpouring  was awe inspiring and unimaginable.

The members of Tri Sigma hope to continue to support both Andy and Sophie through other service projects, endeavors, and events. One of the first values learned as a member of Tri Sigma is “To receive much, you must give much”. Giving back to the members of the community gives our members hope, inspiration, and so much more.
