Lumberjacks clinch 8-4A District Golf Championship for second consecutive year

WARREN, Ark. – The Warren Lumberjacks celebrated a remarkable victory at the Warren Country Club today, Tuesday, September 19, 2023 clinching their second consecutive 8-4A District Golf Championship. With an outstanding team effort, they reaffirmed their status as a golfing powerhouse in the region.

The Jacks tallied a total team score of 232. Their stellar performance not only earned them the district championship but also secured a coveted spot in the upcoming State Tournament.

Leading the charge for the Lumberjacks was Carson Slaughter, whose outstanding performance earned him the top individual medalist honor. Slaughter’s day started strong, entering hole #17 at just 1 over par. However, what followed was a breathtaking display of skill and determination as he eagled #17 and birdied #18, finishing the day an impressive 2 under par with a score of 70.

Rhett Clanton, who shot an impressive 71, played a pivotal role in setting the foundation for the team’s victory. Following closely was Max McGaha, who contributed with a score of 91. Landon Milton also played a vital part in securing the district championship, posting a score of 96.

In terms of team performance, the Warren Lumberjacks comfortably outpaced their rivals, with Crossett securing a distant second place with a team score of 293, and Stuttgart following with a score of 317. Monticello, unable to field a complete team, could not post a score, while Hamburg tied with Crossett at 293, earning them a well-deserved spot alongside Warren in the State Tournament.

The Warren Lumberjacks’ triumph marks their second consecutive district championship win, highlighting their remarkable consistency and talent on the golf course. As they shift their focus to the State Tourney, scheduled at Brookland’s Sage Meadows Country Club on October 3rd, they carry with them the confidence of champions, aiming to make their mark on the statewide stage.
