MORO BAY, Ark. – Moro Bay State Park has resumed full operations after a temporary closure due to flooding caused by the Ouachita River reaching significant levels. As of Monday morning, the Visitor Center, campground, cabins, Deer Run Trail, playground, bathhouse, and pavilion are all accessible to visitors. However, some amenities remain closed due to high water levels, including the marina with boat/kayak rentals, the low water trail, and the Ferry Exhibit.
The Ouachita River, which crested at 85.2 feet on Friday, has since receded to 84.20 feet, with the National Weather Service forecasting a slow continued decrease. Fortunately, Moro Bay State Park is designed to withstand flooding, with no reported damages during this recent event. The closure was only temporary.
For those interested in booking cabins or campsites, the most efficient method is through the park’s website at https://www.arkansasstateparks.com/parks/moro-bay-state-park. Alternatively, bookings and information can also be obtained by visiting the park store or calling 870-463-8555.
Officials urge visitors to stay updated on river levels through the National Weather Service’s River Level Link, which provides readings from the lock and dam just above the park. As the Park stated in a statement released Monday, though further flooding is not anticipated, local wisdom cautions against complacency.
Moro Bay State Park welcomes visitors back and encourages all to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities it offers, with the assurance that precautions are in place to ensure safety and enjoyment.
