In a tough 4A East Conference match held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Monticello, Arkansas, the Warren Lumberjacks faced off against Monticello in a highly anticipated soccer clash. The Lumberjacks, entering the match with an impressive 8-3-1 overall record and a flawless 6-0 standing in Conference play, were met with formidable competition from Monticello. Warren also came into the match having played both Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, making this the third game for the Jacks in three days.

The first half began with early long-range shots from Warren’s Oliver Chavez and Alann Juarez, testing Monticello’s goalkeeper. In the 12th minute, Juarez delivered a beautiful through ball that Jacarlos Marquiz skillfully converted, putting Warren ahead 1-0. Monticello responded swiftly with a close-range shot in the 18th minute, leveling the score. Despite Warren’s continued pressure on Monticello’s goal, Monticello capitalized on defensive miscommunications, taking a 4-1 lead by the 27th minute.
The second half witnessed Warren’s valiant efforts, with Marquiz scoring his second goal in the 51st minute, making it 4-2. Monticello then extended their lead with a fifth goal, followed by Marquiz’s third goal in the 60th minute, bringing the score to 5-3. Greco Figueroa quickly added a goal less than a minute later, making it 5-4. However, Monticello’s efficient attack secured a crucial sixth goal. Warren’s Aaron Romero added a consolation goal in the dying minutes leading to a final score of 6-5.
Despite the loss, Warren’s overall record stands at 8-4-1, with a Conference standing of 6-1. The Lumberjacks’ remarkable performance throughout the season earned them the 4A East Conference Champions title and secured the number one seed in the upcoming 4A State Soccer Tournament.
