FAYETTEVILLE – Additional talent to the Razorbacks men’s program for the 2024-25 season will include Rivaldo Marshall, the 2024 NCAA Indoor 800m champion, and Scottie Vines, who broke the Colorado high school record in the high jump at 7-4.25 (2.24).
Marshall, who is from Kingston, Jamaica, attended Calabar HS, Indian Hills CC, and Iowa. He set Iowa school records in the 800m with times of 1:46.86 indoors and 1:45.86 outdoors.
Vines, who attended De Beque HS in Colorado, bettered the overall state record of 7-4 (2.23) set by Matt Hemmingway in 1991. With an enrollment of 39 students from the 2022-24 school years, De Beque became the smallest school in Colorado to hold a state record.
An Arkansas alum, Hemmingway claimed a silver medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics high jump. Hemmingway invited Vines to his summer high jump camp following the 2022 season when Vines cleared 6-2 (1.88) for his first state title and had a season best of 6-10 (2.08). Vines cleared 6-10 twice in 2023, one of which secured his second state title.
Prior to winning the 2024 NCAA Indoor 800m title in 1:46.96 at Iowa, Marshall set his indoor best of 1:46.86 in winning the 800m at the Tyson Invitational. Outdoors, Marshall improved his time to 1:45.86 in winning the Jim Click Shootout.
At Indian Hills CC, Marshall was a seven-time All-America, winning the NJCAA Indoor 800m title in 2023 while placing third at the NJCAA Outdoor meet. In 2022, Marshall claimed the NJCAA Outdoor 800m title after placing second indoors.
Vines cleared 7-4.25 to win the 2024 Texas Relays high school division and that mark qualified him for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
After winning a third consecutive Colorado 1A State title with a clearance of 7-0 (2.13), Vines had a successful summer campaign as he won the USATF U20 Championships with a 7-3.25 (2.22) height and two days later claimed the Nike Nationals title at 7-1 (2.16).
In the qualifying round of the U.S. Olympic Trials, Vines cleared 7-2.25 (2.19) to place 10th and advance to the final, where he had a no height at 7-1.
Marshall has also played a key role in the 4 x 400m relay, anchoring Iowa’s winning squad (3:05.68) at the 2024 Big 10 Championships with a split of 45.86. In the Big 10 Indoor meet, Marshall anchored Iowa to a third-place finish (3:07.48).
At Indian Hills, Marshall ran anchor leg on silver, bronze and fourth place 4 x 400m relays in NJCAA Championships.
