Star City School District to Host Candlelight Vigil in Memory of Coach Emily Snyder

STAR CITY, Ark. – The Star City School District is inviting the community to gather for a candlelight vigil tomorrow, August 27th, at 8:00 p.m. in memory of Coach Emily Snyder, who passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The event will take place at Star City High School, with candles being distributed at 7:45 p.m.

The vigil is being organized by the Star City High School BETA Club and the Star City High School Tennis Team, both of which were close to Coach Snyder. The evening will serve as an opportunity for the community to come together, share memories, and honor the life and legacy of a beloved teacher and coach.

On Sunday, the Star City School District released a statement expressing their profound sadness at the loss of Coach Snyder. The statement read:

β€œIt is with deep sadness that we inform you that Emily Snyder, Jimmy Brown Elementary PE Teacher and Star City High School Tennis Coach, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024. Emily was not just a staff member or a coach, but a personal friend to many of us in this community. The Pearson/Snyder family has always been a pillar in this town who loves Star City Schools and the Bulldogs with everything they have. Emily was an awesome person and educator who loved kids, as evident in her passion and dedication to not only our SCSD students and athletes, but her own children – a love that was unquestionable.

This loss will be sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school district, staff and students. We will offer guidance and counseling services to anyone who needs it. We will lift each other up and do whatever needs to be done to get through this difficult time together as a Bulldog family. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Drake and the family as our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with them in the difficult days ahead. Emily will be greatly missed by all. We love you Coach Emily.”

The community is encouraged to attend the vigil as a way to show support for the Snyder family and to remember the impact Coach Snyder had on the lives of so many in Star City.

For those unable to attend, the district asks that you keep the Snyder family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
