DUMAS, Ark. – The Monticello Billies improved to 2-1 on the season with a commanding 27-0 victory over the Dumas Bobcats on the road Friday night.

The game began with a defensive highlight as Monticello defensive tackle Michael Girtman brought down a Dumas tailback for a safety, giving the Billies a 2-0 lead under six minutes into the first quarter.

Quarterback Tye Guthrie extended Monticello’s lead with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Rawls over the middle. The successful two-point conversion pushed the score to 10-0.

Just before halftime, Jordan Ollison powered his way into the end zone on a two-yard direct snap rush with 1:37 remaining in the second quarter. Joseph Rojas’s extra point was good, giving Monticello a 17-0 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Rojas extended the Billies’ lead further with a 25-yard field goal, making it 20-0.

Monticello capped off their scoring in the fourth quarter with a 16-yard touchdown run by Jayden Rhodes on a speed sweep to the left. Rojas’s extra point sealed the final score at 27-0.

The Billies open 8-4A Conference play next Friday, September 27, as they host Hamburg.
