Shirley Ann Carmical, precious Mom and Granny, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 6, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born to the late Hill Carruth Steadman and Rephael Grider Stedman on December 27, 1933 in Bradley County, Arkansas. She was a resident of Bossier City, Louisiana for the past 64 years.
She attended Rogers School of Cosmetology and was a hairdresser for 52 years in Shreveport before retiring in 2011. She was a member of Bellaire Baptist Church in Bossier City for the past 27 years. Shirley loved the Lord and loved serving Him through her local church. Near and dear to her heart was serving in the Missions and Benevolence ministries, being a part of the Prayer Blanket ministry, and a member of the Golden Eagles. She loved cooking and would always share half of what she cooked with her family, the sick or the needy. And if she learned you were sick, you could expect her to make you a pot of her potato soup. She was especially fond of and loved the dear ladies in her Sunday School class and her teacher Sara Murphy. During Covid and after, they continued to meet each Sunday via telephone conference, and she looked forward to this time each week. Whenever she had the opportunity to travel, she was the first in line to sign up, as she loved seeing all of God’s beautiful creation, as well as gardening, growing beautiful flowers and feeding and watching the many birds that showed up at her multiple feeders everyday.
Preceding her in death were her parents, stepmother Alice Steadman, half-brother Frank Steadman, brother-in-law John Trussell, grandson Christian Seth Carmical, granddaughter Brianna Faith Carmical, son-in-law Ben Foster and grandson-in-law Kris Petty.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Debbie Lohnes, David Carmical (Patti), and Pam Foster; her grandchildren Jennifer Tharpe (Corey), Michael Foster (Beth), Benjamin Foster (Allison), Wendy Petty, Rebecca Bogan (Cody); and her great grandchildren Brooklyn Tharpe, Baleigh Tharpe, Brantley Tharpe, Mae Foster, Laney Foster, Lottie Foster, Anna Claire Foster, Lillian Foster, Cole Foster, Madeline Petty, Ainsley Petty, Ava Bogan, Adley Kate Bogan, Collin Carmical and Emmalyn Carmical. She is also survived by her sisters Eloise Mann of Warren, Arkansas and Robbie Trussell of Palm Desert, California, her niece Diane Parnell (Steve) and nephew John Trussell (Debbie).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, Louisiana on Saturday, January 11, 2025 with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Randy Harper, pastor of Bellaire Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Tharpe, Brantley Tharpe, Cody Bogan, Michael Foster, Benjamin Foster, Michael Bowman, Marty Foster and Kevin Parnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Parnell, Bill Thacker and Bobby Marlow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bellaire Baptist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana, PHEA (Price Harris Evangelistic Association), 403 E Flournoy Lucas Rd., #306, Shreveport, LA 71115, or charities of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the care given our Mom and Granny by the staff on the 5th and 7th floors at Willis Knighton Pierremont as well as Dr. Blair and Dr. Green.
