UAM Blossoms Fall to Reddies to Open New Year

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team opened the second half of the season at home against Henderson State University. The Blossoms came out of the match-up with a 70-51 loss to the Reddies.

Bailey Harris led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (7-5, 2-4 GAC), scoring 13 points in the match-up. Harris hit 4-19 field goals on the day and 8-11 free throws. She also contributed six rebounds in her 32 minutes played, with three defensive and three offensive. She grabbed three assists and one steal. 

Cha’Myrean Ellis was the other Blossom in double-digits, with 12 points in the game. Ellis was 6-8 in field goals with seven rebounds and one steal.

Brynlee Huggins led Henderson State (3-6, 1-4 GAC) with 27 points.

The Blossoms struggled offensively throughout the opening half of the game, scoring 12 points in the first quarter, followed by only eight in the second. UAM shot for only 21.8% in the first half, hitting only 7 of 32 field goals. The teams were sent to the locker rooms with the Reddies leading 41-20.

Monticello bounced back in the third period, their highest-scoring quarter, with 16 points compared to Henderson’s 20. UAM led in the fourth, outscoring HSU 15 to 9, but saw the effort fall flat as the game would conclude with a 70-51 loss.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 17 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Blossoms will return to the court on Thursday, January 9, inside Steelman Fieldhouse as they take on East Central University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
