MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team dropped its first game of the spring semester to East Central University on Saturday. The Weevils came up short of the Reddies in a heartbreaking 55-52 loss.
Leading Arkansas-Monticello (3-8, 0-5 GAC) with 19 points in the game was Seth Grandberry. Grandberry hit 8-19 field goals and 3-9 shots from three-point range while grabbing five defensive rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block.
Tadarius Jacobs was the other Boll Weevil with double-digits, scoring 10 on the afternoon. Jacobs was 4-7 on field goals, 1-1 from range, and 1-1 on free throws with three defensive rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block.
Henderson State (9-3, 5-1 GAC) was led byNehikhare Igiehon with 17 points.
The first half of the game opened with a jumper for the Reddies, but saw a Weevil three on the next possession to give the advantage back to UAM. HSU saw its offense build a lead over UAM, topping at a nine-point advantage in the half before the Weevils found their stride. After six lead changes in the period, Monticello clawed back and eventually closed the half with a 27-26 lead.
The second 20-minute period proved to be a stunner, with the result coming down to the wire. After a heartbreaking final minute of play, the contest would conclude with a 55-52 loss for UAM.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 22 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
