Lumberjack Baseball Defeats Watson Chapel 11-1 to Open Conference Play

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (3/20/25) – The Warren High School baseball team scored seven runs over the final two innings to run-rule Watson Chapel by a score of 11-1 in six innings in both teams’ conference opener Thursday evening in Pine Bluff.

The Jacks improve to 7-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in 4A-8 play, while the Wildcats fall to 3-4 and 0-1. Kolby Pope pitched all six innings and gave up one run on three hits with 12 strikeouts against four walks. Hayden Cathey led the Warren offense with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate with two RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base.

The Lumberjacks plated the first run of the game in the top of the second on a Jude Cathey RBI single and moved in front 4-0 on three runs in the third inning. Cathey singled home Pope after a lead-off triple for the first run before an error and RBI groundout added two more in the third frame. Watson Chapel was able to score its only run of the contest on a RBI triple in the bottom half of the third inning.

The game remained 4-1 until Warren tallied two runs in the fifth for a 6-1 advantage. A run-scoring base knock and sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 8-1 in the sixth inning before three consecutive run-scoring hits moved the lead to 11-1. Nathan Spears registered an RBI single followed by an RBI double by Bryson Harris and Parker O’Neal capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Pope was able to get the final three outs to clinch the win for the Orange and Black.

Other offensive standouts for the Jacks included Cathey with two hits and an RBI, while Pope smacked two hits and drove in a run. Ren Reep and O’Neal drove in two runs apiece.

Warren returns to action next Thursday, March 27 with two games in the Joe T. Robinson Spring Break Tournament. The Lumberjacks will play Genoa Central at 6 p.m., with a matchup against Searcy following the conclusion of the first game. Both games will be played at Pulaski Academy.
