BCMC Wound Care Clinic Hosting Sock Drive During September

WARREN, Ark. (9/3/25) – The Bradley County Medical Center Wound Care Clinic is hosting an Every “Sole” Deserves a Sock Drive throughout the month of September in recognition of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Month.

There will be three drop-off locations inside the hospital for donations of new socks that will be distributed locally to those in need. The drop-off boxes are in the admissions waiting area off the Jolley Street entrance, the ER waiting area, and in front of where the Gift Shop used to be.

Socks are the most requested item in the winter for those less fortunate and providing clean, new socks help prevent foot-related health complications. There are numerous health problems that can result from not having or wearing socks. Those issues can include friction, frostbite, and neuropathy. Friction leads to thickened skin, which results in painful calluses, while frostbite can occur during cold temperatures. Neuropathy is when nerves become damaged or dysfunctional so those experiencing it can’t feel thickened skin or irritations, which can lead to a non-healing wound called an ulcer.

September is PAD Month and aims to educate the public about the disease. PAD occurs when arteries in the legs become narrowed or blocked by plaque buildup, reducing blood flow to the limbs. When blood flow is limited, patients may experience severe pain in the feet or toes, even while resting, and are at a greater risk for developing wounds. In addition, without healthy circulation, the oxygen and nutrients critical to successful healing are unable to reach those wounds. Left untreated, PAD-related wounds can result in serious consequences, including limb loss or even death.
