RISON, Ark. – Jimmy Dale Adair of Rye has been named Cleveland County judge to complete the term left vacant by the passing of longtime judge Jimmy Cummings. The Cleveland County Herald reports that the Cleveland County Quorum Court voted unanimously to approve Adair’s appointment during a special called meeting held Monday.

Adair, who had been serving as road foreman for Cleveland County, was selected to carry out the remainder of Cummings’ term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2026. State law does not allow him to seek election for the position once the term ends.

The Herald noted that while Adair and Cummings were political rivals during the 2022 county judge race, the two men became friends in the years following, with Cummings later appointing Adair as foreman. Cummings had also prepared a succession plan in the event of his passing, placing Adair first in line.

Adair is also a familiar name to many in Bradley County.
