A project to restore shade and beauty to downtown Warren is underway. On Friday, October 24, Bemis Tree Farm began planting young gingko trees in designated areas where the original townscape trees were removed several years ago due to disease, damage, and other issues.
The new trees are being donated to the town by Maribeth Frazer in memory of her late son, John Frazer III. Planting began late this week and will continue until all trees are in place.
Gingko trees, sometimes called “living fossils,” are known for their distinct fan-shaped leaves and brilliant golden-yellow fall color. They are among the hardiest urban trees, capable of thriving in compact soil, air pollution, and other challenges common in downtown environments. Their longevity, resilience, and beauty make them an excellent choice for reestablishing a healthy tree canopy in the heart of town.
As the planting continues, the gingko trees will serve both as a renewal of Warren’s downtown landscape and as a lasting tribute to the memory of John Frazer III.
