MONTICELLO, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) held its fall commencement exercises on Friday, December 12, in the Steelman Field House. Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM, recognized graduates completing academic credentials ranging from master’s degrees to technical certificates during the ceremony.
Dr. Doss commended the graduates and their families and friends, stating, “Today, we honor not only what you have achieved, but all you are yet to become. Congratulations, graduates. May your path be filled with success, purpose and the joy of making a difference.”
“Your time at UAM has prepared you not only with skills, but with values — integrity, empathy, a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence,” Dr. Doss told graduates. “Carry those values with you and let them guide you in all you do. Use them to build a better community, a stronger state and a more united nation. … Let your actions speak louder than words in showing that peace is not just a dream — it’s a choice.” She also made special acknowledgments of several groups of graduates, including those who were first-generation college students, parents, active in campus organizations or members of the armed forces.
Zona Nwankwo, a member of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and the Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship and a 2025 graduate receiving an Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems degree and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree, provided the invocation, and Scott Bearden, associate professor of music and director of choral activities at UAM, sang the national anthem and alma mater.
Dr. Michael Moore, vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of Arkansas System, spoke during the ceremony, offering greetings on behalf of the system.
