With several players transitioning directly from the gridiron to the hardwood and limited practice time as a full group, Warren faced an early challenge against a Hampton team that established tempo quickly. The Lumberjacks continued to compete throughout the night and found moments of rhythm that offered encouraging signs moving forward. Thursday night was the debut of new Head Coach Nate Davis.
Jacob Marshall provided Warren’s first offensive spark late in the opening quarter, knocking down a three-pointer to get the Lumberjacks on the scoreboard and briefly steady the offense.
Josiah Steen led Warren with eight points, finishing 4-of-7 from the field and consistently finding opportunities around the basket. Colton Steen followed with seven points on an efficient 3-of-5 shooting night, including a perfect 1-for-1 effort from beyond the arc. The third quarter proved to be Warren’s strongest offensive stretch, with Colton scoring all seven of his points in the period and capping the run with a momentum-building three.
Bleyze Fellows and Zaydin Grider each added five points. Fellows shot 50 percent from the field and contributed on the glass, while Grider connected on a three-pointer during the Lumberjacks’ best offensive sequence of the game. Marshall finished with three points, converting his lone attempt from long range.
As a team, Warren shot 12-of-30 from the field and 3-of-11 from three-point range, collecting seven offensive rebounds and 21 total boards. Hampton, meanwhile, capitalized on its early momentum and depth, finishing 29-of-60 from the floor and steadily widening the margin across four quarters.
For Warren, the opener offered a baseline rather than a verdict. With game action now in hand and practice time ahead, the Lumberjacks have clear areas to build upon as the season progresses. Warren now sits at 0–1 on the season.
