Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Warns Public of Ongoing Phone Scam Targeting Families of Inmates

HAMPTON, Ark. — The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a scam involving individuals posing as law enforcement officers in an attempt to collect money over the phone.

According to a recent post from the department, scammers have been contacting family members of individuals who are currently incarcerated or who were recently booked and released. The callers claim to be affiliated with law enforcement and request payment.

Officials emphasized that the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office will never call and ask for payment over the phone. They also stated that the office does not request money through gift cards, mobile apps, or wire transfers, and that any such request should be considered a scam.

Residents who receive a suspicious call are advised to hang up immediately and avoid providing any personal or financial information.

The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the public to share the information to help protect others in the community.
