WARREN, Ark. – Saline River News has officially launched a new free email newsletter called “The Current,” designed to help readers across Bradley County and surrounding South Arkansas communities stay connected with local news and events.
The newsletter will feature a collection of top local headlines, Warren Lumberjack sports coverage, community announcements, feature stories, and other updates published by Saline River News.
Saline River News previously operated an email newsletter in the past, but owner Rob Reep said the publication recently invested in new technology and infrastructure in hopes of creating a more reliable and consistent experience for readers.
“We’ve wanted to bring back a newsletter for a long time, but we honestly were never fully satisfied with the provider we used before,” Reep said. “We recently invested in better technology because we believe direct communication with our readers is becoming more important than ever.”
Reep said social media remains an important part of how Saline River News connects with readers, but noted that social platforms increasingly control which stories users actually see.
“Social media is essentially a filter,” Reep said. “Those platforms are designed to show users the content that keeps people scrolling and staying on the site longer. Important local news doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes the stories that matter most to a community are not necessarily the stories that social media algorithms prioritize.”
Reep said Saline River News has no plans to stop its social media presence, but hopes the newsletter will provide readers with a more direct and dependable way to receive important local information.
“We’re absolutely continuing our social media coverage,” Reep said. “But we also want to provide another direct connection to our readers that isn’t dependent on algorithms or changing platform rules.”
Reep said readers should not expect to receive constant emails from the publication.
“We’re not planning to flood people’s inboxes every day,” Reep said. “Most subscribers will likely receive about one email a week featuring some of the top local stories. If there is major breaking news or something important we believe readers need to be aware of, we may occasionally send an additional update.”
Reep also thanked the community for continuing to support local journalism in Bradley County and surrounding areas.
“We’re incredibly thankful for the support this community has shown us over the years,” Reep said. “We are the only locally owned news source in Bradley County, and we intend to continue serving the community with the most reliable and up-to-date news available.”
The newsletter is free to subscribe to and will be delivered directly by email. Readers can unsubscribe at any time.
Saline River News has provided local coverage in Bradley County since 2010 and has expanded in recent years to include additional communities across South Arkansas.
