Floyd James Taylor, Jr., was received by his Lord on June 17, 2026, at Chapel Woods Health and Rehabilitation in Warren, Arkansas. He was born November 2, 1945, in Warren, Arkansas, of Floyd James Taylor, Sr. and Margaret Aileen Tate Taylor.
He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1967 with a major in Religion and was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. He served in Vietnam 1968-1970 and attended the U.S. Army Chaplains School in Ft. Hamilton, New York.
In 1970-72 he entered the Master of Divinity program at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. From 1972 to 1976 he worked for the Department for Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as a social worker and juvenile counselor. In 1976 he was coordinator of Community Services for the Kentucky Children’s Homes, for placement in residential care, of children from families in conflict or crisis.
In May 1977 he received his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville School of Law. He became a staff attorney for the Jefferson District Public Defender’s office in Louisville, handling trial defense for youth charged with delinquency and adults charged with misdemeanor offenses against children. June of 1979 he went into private practice in Princeton, Kentucky, during which time he was also an adjunct instructor at Murry State University.
In 1982 the family moved to El Dorado, Arkansas, where Floyd joined the staff of the Arkansas Center for Legal Services. In 1993 he moved to the Monticello office as managing attorney and later he became the managing attorney for the Pine Bluff office of ACLS but continued to live in Monticello. He retired in 2011.
He attended First Presbyterian Church of Monticello and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is predeceased by his parents and a sister, Nancy Ann Taylor Ritchey of Franklin, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Leta Taylor, and three sons and their families: Christopher Paul (Wendy) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Ethan Matthew (Karen) of Beverly Hills, Florida; Nathaniel Seth (Leslie) of Hope, Arkansas; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his brother Wilson Andrew Taylor of El Dorado, and family; and his brother John Michael Taylor and family of Taylor, Arkansas.
