The Tall Pines Timber Challenge will bring forestry skills, friendly competition and fundraising to the 2026 Bradley County Fair and Livestock Show on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Organized by the University of Arkansas at Monticello Forestry Club, the challenge will feature separate youth and adult divisions with events designed to test participants’ knowledge, accuracy and traditional timber skills.
The youth division will begin at 10 a.m. and is open to participants ages 10 through 12th grade. Competitions will include tree identification, forestry equipment identification, compass and pacing skills, and a “cookie toss” involving cross-sections of logs. Prizes will be awarded to participants.
The division for competitors ages 18 and older will begin at 1 p.m. Events will include crosscut sawing, axe throwing, a Jack and Jill competition and additional challenges.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Log-A-Load for Kids, a forestry-community fundraising program supporting children’s health care.
The Tall Pines Timber Challenge is sponsored by Wilson Brothers Lumber Co. of Rison. Additional information about registration and the event location will be announced as it becomes available.
