Re-New-ing Edinburg elected a new treasurer, adjusted its upcoming meeting schedule and discussed several community events during its July 21 meeting at the New Edinburg Community Center.

President Trenna Kemp opened the meeting, and members approved the minutes from the previous gathering.

Kemp informed the group that Linda Hornaday had resigned as treasurer. Members unanimously elected Roger McClellan to fill the position. McClellan then resigned as vice president, and David Kemp was elected to succeed him.

McClellan presented the organization’s financial statement, which will be filed for an audit following a brief discussion. Members also voted to add Trenna Kemp as a second authorized signer on the organization’s bank account.

The group approved reimbursing McClellan $22.33 for clips purchased from American Flag and Banner. The clips will be used to display an American 250th anniversary flag at the veterans park. The flag was donated to the organization by Brenda Triplett.

Members also voted not to hold the annual back-to-school splash this year because of excessive heat and declining participation during recent years.

The organization’s August and September meetings will be held on the Monday preceding the regular third-Tuesday meeting date. The schedule was changed because a special election will be held at the community center on Aug. 18 and the Cleveland County Fair will conflict with the September meeting.

Re-New-ing Edinburg also voted to again sponsor a Junior Exhibitors drawing at the Cleveland County Fair. Winners will receive prizes of $100, $50 and $25.

Upcoming area events announced during the meeting included the Aug. 18 special election; the Cleveland County Fair and Rodeo, Sept. 11-19; the Historic Junk Hunt, Sept. 24-26; the Kingsland Get Rhythm Festival, Sept. 26; Rison in the Fall, Oct. 10; a fall candy giveaway at the New Edinburg Community Center, Oct. 31; the Cleveland County veterans luncheon, Oct. 31; and Santa’s visits to the community center, Dec. 18-19.
