Re-New-ing Edinburg members discussed upcoming community events, work at Veterans Park and preparations for the Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt during their September 14 meeting at the New Edinburg Community Center.
President Trenna Kemp called the meeting to order. Members approved the minutes from the previous meeting, and Treasurer Roger McClellan distributed the current financial statement, which will be filed for audit.
McClellan told the group that repairs still need to be made to lights at Veterans Park. Melody Spears also reported that one of the lights directed toward the flags has been working sporadically. McClellan plans to arrange the repairs, install the final four bricks at the park and schedule a repair day for the park sign once temperatures cool.
Spears will also contact Susanne Wagnon to determine whether additional Christmas lights need to be purchased while seasonal decorations may still be available at discounted prices.
The group discussed preparations for the Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt, scheduled for September 24-26. Members approved a work session beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, September 21.
According to the meeting minutes, Melody Spears, Patricia McClellan, David Kemp, Brenda Triplett and Martha Tolano are available to work all three days of the Junk Hunt. Roger McClellan plans to work Thursday and Friday, Trenna Kemp will work Thursday, and Kathy Waldrop is available Friday and Saturday.
Plans for the New Edinburg Community Center BBQ fundraiser, originally scheduled for October 10, could be affected by the county’s burn ban. The board plans to meet again to discuss possible alternatives.
Re-New-ing Edinburg has also registered to participate in the Great Arkansas Trash Cleanup, which continues through October 31. Members hope cooler weather will allow the group to begin community trash pickup efforts during October.
The organization also approved a Game Night at the New Edinburg Community Center for Friday, October 16, beginning at 5 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring snacks and any games they would like to play.
Other upcoming community events discussed during the meeting included Rison in the Fall on October 10, the Cleveland County Veterans luncheon on October 31, a fall festival and candy giveaway on October 31, and Santa visits at the community center December 18-19.
Those listed as attending the September meeting were Trenna Kemp, Roger McClellan, Patricia McClellan, Brenda Triplett, Larry Waldrop, Martha Tolano, Luis Tolano, Don Triplett, Melody Spears and Kathy Waldrop.
The meeting adjourned following a motion by Kathy Waldrop, seconded by Melody Spears.
