Members of the New Edinburg and County Line volunteer fire departments took part in water shuttle operations Friday night and Saturday as part of their annual training.
The training gave firefighters an opportunity to practice moving and supplying large quantities of water, an important skill for departments responding to fires in rural areas where fire hydrants may not be readily available.
During the exercise, firefighters worked with tanker equipment and a portable water tank, practicing the process of delivering and transferring water that can be used to maintain a steady supply during emergency operations.
Water shuttle training helps volunteer departments prepare to coordinate equipment and personnel when responding to structure fires and other incidents requiring significant amounts of water.
The New Edinburg and County Line departments regularly serve rural communities where dependable water-supply operations can play an important role in firefighting response.
