The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday, Sept. 22 inside the Donald W. Reynolds YMCA of Warren and Bradley County for its second and final gathering of the month. The program began after lunch with Warren High School Junior Rotarians Alliana Ayala and Haven Johnson presenting to the crowd. Both young ladies gave great speeches about their current achievements and future plans. The program continued with Rotarian Carlton Davis introducing Kathy Carter, the District 6170 Learning Facilitator. Carter is from Arkadelphia and a past District Governor. Carter’s role was created to help remind older Rotarians about the mission of Rotary and to educate newer members on what Rotary does. She started with the creation of Rotary in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago and talked about the first convention held in Kansas City in 1917 and how the Rotary Foundation Endowment Fund began with just $26.50 and grew to $5,000 by 1928.
She continued on to talk about projects the local clubs do and said that most people join Rotary due to “people or purpose.” She explained the people part was just by people simply asking someone to join or bringing a guest to a meeting that then becomes interested. Purpose refers to people that join Rotary looking to make a difference in their community or even on a national or worldwide scale, which is possible through Rotary. The next scheduled meeting for the Rotary Club of Warren will be on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at noon.
