JONESBORO, Ark. — Warren High School golfer Rett McGaha added another major accomplishment to his growing résumé over the weekend, capturing a championship at the 2nd Annual Austin Cook Junior Championship at Ridgepointe Country Club in Jonesboro.
The two-day Arkansas State Golf Association event was held Sept. 5-6 and brought together some of the state’s top junior golfers. The championship featured 36 holes of stroke play for boys and girls ages 14-18. (ASGA)
McGaha battled not only a strong field, but also difficult conditions as extreme heat settled over the course during the weekend. The Arkansas State Golf Association congratulated its champions following the tournament, noting that the players had to show “grit, patience and determination” to make it through the two days of competition.
McGaha, a member of the Warren Lumberjack golf team and a member of the Class of 2028, has put together an impressive stretch on the course. He opened Warren’s 2026 high school season by shooting an even-par 35 to earn individual medalist honors at Monticello Country Club. More recently, McGaha fired a 75 at Mystic Creek Golf Club to again finish as the individual medalist in a match featuring Warren, El Dorado, Searcy and Parkers Chapel. (Saline River News)
His success also extends well beyond the high school season. McGaha has been a regular competitor on the Arkansas State Golf Association junior circuit and won the Bubba Smart Memorial Junior Championship at Pine Bluff Country Club earlier this summer. (ASGA)
The Austin Cook Junior Championship is hosted in partnership with Jonesboro native Austin Cook, a former University of Arkansas golfer and PGA TOUR winner. The event was created to showcase Arkansas junior golf talent and provide young players another high-level competitive opportunity as they work toward playing at the collegiate level. For McGaha, the victory in Jonesboro continues what has already been a standout year on the golf course and gives the Warren standout another tournament title against some of Arkansas’ best junior competition.
