BCMC reports positive income in August, full monthly board meeting report

Bradley County Medical Center board of directors held its monthly meeting Thursday with Vice Chairman Joe Don Greenwood presiding in lieu of Chairman Freddie Mobley who was absent.

Controller Matt Pace said the hospital had positive income of $532,000 in August. He said the fiscal year, which ends on Sept. 30, appeared to be a little above average in income. Accounts receivable dropped by about $350,000 for the month and $121,065 was received in sales tax funds. CEO Leslie Huitt added that USDA grant funds of $650,000 were also received.

In other action:

  • Huitt said patient volumes remained steady, with an average of 13-14 patients at First Station. She said OB numbers had fluctuated.

She said the hospital’s master plan should be ready to be presented to the board in October.

Huitt announced BCMC had received a 4-Star rating through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the fourth year in a row. The hospital was rated in mortality, safety, readmissions, patient experience, and timely and effective care.

She said she had been named a finalist for CFO Of The Year by Arkansas Business magazine. The winner will be announced at a banquet soon.

  • Vice President of Support Services Marilyn Johnson said ductwork had begun in the surgery department. More work will be done in the X-ray area next.

She said Maintenance Director Tim Saunders will meet with a roofer to get estimates on roof repairs to the hospital.

Johnson said a contract had been signed to provide breakfast, lunch and snacks for the Kids First program.

A grant application for $10,000 for diagnostic imaging services has been submitted.

Johnson provided reports on the recent mass casualty drill and community health needs survey.

  • Huitt said Arkansas Rural Health Partnership had arranged a tour of BCMC in conjunction with a new hospital planned in Sevier County.

She also noted that COVID-19 and flu infections have started increasing in Southern Hemisphere countries, which could signal upcoming increases in the U.S.

  • A motion was approved to spend $155,550 from sales tax funds to pay for new software through Meditech.
