Mayor Denisa Pennington proclaims October 16-22, 2022, as National Friends of the Library Week in the City of Warren. The Warren Branch Library will be spending the week celebrating its Friends of the Library group as part of the Arkansas Library Association’s 17th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week.
The Friends of the Warren Library were established in 1989. Currently over 500 community members contribute annually to the Friends, and these contributors actively volunteer their time to assist the group with fundraising efforts that include a dessert & craft auction held every spring and fall.
Officers of the organization are Nancy Vittitow, president; JoAnn Rawls, vice-president; Cathy Richardson, chairman; Sharon Ellis, treasurer; Phyllis Loomis, publicity; and Laura Wagnon, secretary.
Celebration activities include a week long open house and membership drive to be held at the library. Dates and times for these activities will be Monday thru Thursday 10am-2pm and Friday 1pm-5pm.
“Our library would be much poorer without the Friends,” said branch manager Sandy Doss. “The funds they raise definitely put the icing on the cake. I think most patrons would be surprised to learn how many of the services and programs they enjoy are supported by the Friends.”
Please contact the library at 870-226-2536 or visit https://live-searl.pantheonsite.io/about/support/join-the-friends to find out how to become a member of the Friends.
National Friends of Libraries Week is coordinated by United for Libraries, a division of the American Library Association with approximately 4,000 personal and group members representing hundreds of thousands of library supporters. United for Libraries supports those who govern, promote, advocate, and fundraise for libraries, and brings together library trustees, advocates, friends, and foundations into a partnership that creates a powerful force for libraries in the 21st century.
