BANKS, Ark. – The Town of Banks is calling on property owners to help improve the community’s appearance by maintaining their properties in accordance with City Ordinance No. 2-2020. The ordinance mandates that all property owners—residential, commercial, and otherwise—must cut overgrown weeds and grass, remove garbage and litter, and clear away inoperable vehicles and other unsightly items from their premises.
The city highlights that unkept properties can create health hazards by becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pests. Ordinance No. 2-2020 specifically requires property owners to prevent grass and weeds from growing beyond 10 inches in height, as well as to eliminate stagnant water and other unsanitary conditions that may pose risks to the community’s well-being.
In a recent statement, Mayor Keeton Hudson reminded property owners of their responsibility to keep the town clean and attractive, especially with the Buck Fever Festival approaching. He emphasized that the town is proud to provide a safe and welcoming environment, which will enhance the quality of life for residents and make a positive impression on visitors.
For those in violation, the city will issue a written notice allowing 20 days to address the problems. Continued non-compliance may lead to city-imposed cleanup efforts, with associated costs charged to the property owner and potential fines ranging from $25 to $250.
Residents are encouraged to contact City Hall at (870) 465-2570 or via email at [email protected] for any questions or to obtain a copy of the ordinance.
