Star City emerged victorious as champions of the 2025 San Lucas Cup, concluding an ongoing community soccer tournament hosted in Warren to benefit St. Luke Catholic Church.
The tournament, organized by the San Lucas Catholic community, spanned several weeks and brought together teams, volunteers, and supporters from across the region for spirited competition and fellowship.
The championship-winning Star City squad included several athletes from the Warren area, among them former Lumberjack standout Daniel Mondragon. A graduate of Warren High School and former semi-professional player for Arkansas Wolves FC, Mondragon is remembered locally for scoring the two winning goals that led Warren High School to its only state championship title in soccer.
Organizers expressed their gratitude to numerous individuals and groups who helped make the tournament a success, including Father Eddy and the San Lucas parish, local police for their support and presence, Mayor Gregg Reep and Nora González for backing the event, and referees who dedicated their time. Volunteers who helped organize and facilitate the tournament were also recognized for their vital contributions.
Proceeds from the San Lucas Cup will benefit St. Luke Catholic Church in Warren, helping to support its ministries and community programs.
“Thank you for supporting and strengthening our community!” the church wrote in a social media post following the event.
