The Jacks overcame an opening-drive interception when the defense held firm, blocking a White Hall field goal attempt with 5:47 left in the first quarter. Just one play later, quarterback Jackson Denton connected with Josiah Steen for an 86-yard touchdown strike. Jacarlos Marquez added the extra point to give Warren a 7-0 lead.

Davis powers through before halftime

Warren extended the margin early in the second quarter. At 11:54, Aaron Davis powered through a Bulldog defender for a six-yard touchdown run. Marquez’s PAT stretched the lead to 14-0.

The defense came up with another fourth-down stop later in the quarter, and though the Jacks couldn’t capitalize immediately, they got another chance just before halftime. A White Hall interception was wiped out by a roughing-the-passer penalty, setting up Warren at the Bulldog 31. Davis finished the drive with a one-yard score at :56, and Marquez stayed perfect to make it 21-0 heading into the break.

Bush sparks third-quarter surge

Warren kept the pressure on in the third quarter. Defensive lineman Louis Woods ended White Hall’s opening possession with a sack on fourth down at the Bulldog 39, giving the Lumberjacks strong field position. Warren’s offense, however, couldn’t convert and was forced to punt after a short drive.

White Hall tried to answer on its next series, but the Jacks’ defense struck again. At 7:24, Zechariah Bush jumped a pass and raced 32 yards for a touchdown. Marquez’s extra point pushed the lead to 28-0, giving Warren a commanding advantage midway through the third.

White Hall refused to go quietly, punching in two quick touchdowns before the :47 mark of the quarter to close the gap to 28-14.

Defense seals it late

The Bulldogs threatened again in the fourth after Warren turned the ball over on downs at its own 25 with 11:34 left. But Josiah Steen ended the drive with a leaping interception at the five-yard line.

Denton later found Bleyze Fellows for a big gain to flip field position, though the drive stalled near midfield. Warren again drove deep into White Hall territory late, reaching the Bulldog three before turning it over on downs.

The defense had the last word, keeping White Hall out of the end zone on its final drive. The Jacks then ran out the clock in victory formation to secure the bounce-back win.

What’s next

With the 28-14 victory, Warren moves to 1-1 on the season. The Lumberjacks return home Friday, Sept. 12, to host Watson Chapel at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium.
