Past District Governor Robert Thompson Speaks to Rotary Club

Rotarian Andrew Tolbert, Past District Governor and District Communications Officer Robert Thompson, and Rotarian Carlton Davis.

The Rotary Club of Warren met for its final meeting of the month on Tuesday, Sept. 23 inside the Fellowship Hall at First Methodist Church. The club heard from Warren High School Junior Rotarians Bleyze Fellows and Allie Adair to kick the program off. Rotarian Carlton Davis introduced Robert Thompson, who is a Past District Governor for District 6170 and currently serves as the Communications Officer.

Thompson began by calling up former club President Andrew Tolbert to present a certificate acknowledging the Rotary Club of Warren’s 100 years of membership in Rotary International. Warren’s Rotary Club was founded in May of 1920 and was set to celebrate the 100 years in May of 2020, but had to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thompson was the District Governor for the 2019-20 Rotary Year and planned to present this certificate to Tolbert, who was the Rotary Club of Warren’s President during that same time. Thompson then transitioned to the main portion of his program which touched on the struggles of Rotary membership in our area and the United States as a whole. He said other areas around the world are growing, but the US is seeing membership decine. He challenged the Rotary Club of Warren to be Rotarians instead of just members and to be “People of Action” with Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self” in mind. He spoke about his own journey in Rotary and the climb to being the District Governor for District 6170. He spoke briefly on his role now as the District’s Communication Officer before answering a few questions to end the program. The Rotary Club of Warren meets on the Second and Fourth Tuesday of each month.
