Woodlawn School District announces crackdown on senior pranks

RISON, Ark. (4-6-26) — The Woodlawn School District has announced that so-called “senior pranks” will no longer be tolerated, citing increasing concerns over property damage, safety risks, and the strain placed on school resources.

In a statement released Monday, district officials said that while senior pranks have often been viewed as a rite of passage, recent incidents have led to consequences that go beyond what can be addressed through routine school discipline.

“We want to be very clear moving forward: this activity is not school-sponsored, has never been approved, and will no longer be tolerated in any form,” the statement reads.

According to the district, past incidents have resulted in lasting damage to school property, heightened safety concerns, and situations involving individuals who do not return to take responsibility. Officials also noted that these actions create liability concerns, place an unfair burden on staff, and often occur without supervision, increasing the risk of injury.

Under the new directive, anyone who enters school property after hours without authorization and damages or alters school grounds could face disciplinary action and possible referral to local law enforcement for prosecution.

District leaders emphasized that the decision was made to protect students, staff, and school property.

“We recognize that traditions can be meaningful, and we understand that seniors want to celebrate the conclusion of an important chapter in their lives,” the statement said. “Our goal is not to take away from that excitement, but to ensure that it is expressed in positive, safe, and appropriate ways.”

Students are encouraged to participate in school-sponsored senior activities, including senior drive, senior luncheon, awards ceremonies, and graduation.

The district also called on parents and the community to support the change, noting that cooperation will help ensure the end of the school year remains both memorable and respectful.

The statement was signed by Superintendent Kevin Hancock and Woodlawn High School Principal T.J. Hill.
