Warren came out aggressive early, creating multiple scoring chances in the opening minutes. Jessica Chavez sparked the attack with a darting run down the left flank, weaving past defenders before seeing her shot turned away at the near post by the Hamburg goalkeeper.
Just moments later, in the fourth minute, Allison Mondragon tested the keeper with a strong left-footed strike, but Hamburg again came up with the save.
The Lady Jacks found consistent success attacking down the left wing, which eventually forced Hamburg into a highly defensive shape, often dropping as many as six players into the penalty area.
Warren nearly broke through again in the 10th minute when Azul Garcia made a run down the right side and delivered a cutback pass into the box, but no Warren forward was able to connect.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute. Garcia once again used her speed to get down the right wing and fired a low shot on goal. The Hamburg keeper made the initial save but couldn’t secure the ball, and Chavez was in the right place to finish the rebound from close range, giving Warren a 1-0 lead.
Defensively, the Lady Jacks were solid throughout the first half, highlighted by a strong performance from left back Kiara Galindo, who disrupted multiple Hamburg counterattacks.
Warren added to its lead in the 27th minute following a corner kick. A loose ball in the box found its way past the Hamburg keeper during a scramble. While there was some question as to whether the ball came off a Hamburg defender, the goal was officially credited to Chavez, giving her a brace and Warren a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Jacks carried that lead into halftime.
The second half featured fewer scoring opportunities, though Warren maintained control and created a couple of early chances after the break. Hamburg was unable to generate a serious threat, as Warren’s defense held firm to secure the shutout.
With the win, Warren improves to 5-6 on the season. The Lady Jacks will return to action Thursday on the road against Star City.
