Weevils Close GAC Tournament Run with 5-6 Loss to Southeastern

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team closed out its 2026 GAC Tournament run Friday afternoon at Majestic Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. In a must-win elimination game, the No. 1-seeded Weevils came up just short against the No. 4-seeded Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State, falling 5-6 in 9 innings.

Scoring Recap:

The Boll Weevils kicked off the scoring with a single to right center from Elijah Olaybal in the first to plate Darcy Barry.

Three more runs for Arkansas-Monticello were added in the second. Kyle Tolley crossed home off a single to center from Daniel Lizarraga, who would cross himself off a double deep to center from Olaybal. Olaybal scored the final run of the inning off Jackson Riedling’s single to right center.

The Savage Storm plated their first two runs of the game in the top of the third, a double to left center plated the first, while a fielder’s choice brought home the second.

Southeastern tied the game at four, scoring a single run in both the sixth and seventh innings, off a double and a home run, respectively.

The Weevils plated their final run of the game in the eighth as Darcy Barry singled to score Drew Floyd.

Three outs away from being sent home, the Storm scored the deciding run on a double to right field, before holding the Weevils blank in the bottom of the inning, to take the game 6-5.

Pitching Performances:

– Vincent Segovia started on the mound for the Boll Weevils, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts in his 3.2 innings of work.

– Tyler Vincent entered the game, pitching 2.1 innings, with two runs earned on four hits, with one strikeout.

– Nathan McManus was summoned from the bullpen and faced six batters. He allowed two hits in his 1.1 innings of work.

– John White entered to close the game, suffered the setback on the mound, and allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of work.

Offensive Showcase:

– Darcy Barry – 2-for-5 with 1 2B, 1 SB, 1 RBI, and one run scored.

– Daniel Lizarraga – 2-for-3 with 1 SB, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 RBI, and one r run scored.

– Elijah Olaybal – 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, 1 2B, and one run scored.

– Eli Marvin – 2-for-4 with 1 2B and 1 BB.

– Jackson Riedling – 1-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1BB.

– Kyle Tolley – 3BB, 2 SB, and one run scored.

On Deck For The Weevils:

The Weevils look to the NCAA Selection Show on May 10 for a chance at the 2026 NCAA Regionals. If not selected to advance, the Boll Weevils concluded the 2026 season with an overall record of 31-18 and a 21-8 conference record. They will return to the field next spring for the 2027 season.
