MONTICELLO, Ark. — Children took part in a variety of outdoor education activities during a recent outdoor skills day in Drew County, according to the Bradley County Extension Office.
The event included lessons on measuring trees, estimating the age of trees, identifying different tree species, tying knots and practicing with slingshots. Participants also learned about and practiced throwing an atlatl, an ancient tool used to launch spears or darts.
Photos shared by the Extension Office showed children gathering around large pine trees as they used measuring tools and listened to instruction during the program.
The Bradley County Extension Office credited Lynn Lanthrip for helping make the day a success, saying the children had a blast participating in the outdoor activities.
