The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday, July 28 inside Donald W. Reynolds YMCA of Warren and Bradley County for its final meeting of the month. The meeting was very important as it was Rotary District 6170’s Governor Shawnee Cooper’s scheduled visit. Cooper met with members of the Warren Rotary Club board for around half an hour before attending the regularly scheduled meeting at noon with the club as the program for the day. Cooper spoke about her plans for 2026-27 Rotary Year, that began on July 1, 2026, for District 6170. District 6170 encompasses the southern half of the state from De Queen to Crossett but also includes a few clubs north of Little Rock such as Russellville and Conway to name a couple. Bryant, Benton, and Hot Springs are also in the district along with clubs more local to Warren like Fordyce, Monticello, El Dorado, and Camden.
Cooper gave an update on membership numbers in the district along with plans for a few new clubs to open in the near future. She also talked about some of her initiatives for the upcoming year, including getting back to Rotary basics. It has been expressed to her than many new members along with some older members aren’t aware of or have forgotten some of the basic principles of Rotary and what the organization aims to accomplish. She finished her speech by mentioning Rotary International President Olayinka Babalola of Nigeria and his theme of “Create Lasting Impact.” She is hopeful her tenure will create a lasting impact for District 6170. The Rotary Club of Warren now meets at the YMCA on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
