Weevil Football Falls to Southeastern Oklahoma in Season Opener

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team opened the 2026 season at Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium on Thursday evening. The Boll Weevils hosted Great American Conference member Southeastern Oklahoma State University and dropped the contest, 21-12.

Quarterback Drew Forkner finished the night 10-of-23 through the air for 126 yards. Isaiah Roberts led the Boll Weevil receiving with four receptions for 55 yards, including a long of 26. Michael Lott followed closely behind with three catches for 54 yards, highlighted by a 40-yard reception.  

On the ground, Dave Alston led UAM with 39 yards on 12 carries, while Braylon Henry found the end zone twice on nine carries for 23 yards. DT McCoy added 21 yards on just two attempts, including an 18-yard rush. 

Defensively, Johnny Richardson led the Boll Weevils with eight total tackles, including six solo stops. Charles Thomas and Andrew Sánchez each finished with six tackles, while Keyon Clark and Lonnie Leverette recorded one sack apiece.  

Nicholas Lane handled punting duties for UAM, totaling 186 yards on five punts with a long of 48 yards. Rodrigo Tamez recorded three kickoffs for 167 yards.

How it Happened

First Quarter

– 00:49 – SEO | Southeastern Oklahoma struck first on a 1-yard rushing touchdown from Chancy Lester Jr., capping a 12-play, 95-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead. 

Second Quarter

– 09:00 – SEO | Levay Duncan found the end zone on a 1-yard rush, extending the Savage Storm advantage to 14-0.

– 04:38 – SEO | Luke Hohenberger connected with Trevin Hohenberger for a 14-yard touchdown pass, pushing Southeastern Oklahoma’s lead to 21-0.

– 02:15 – UAM | Braylon Henry punched the ball in from one yard out to put the Boll Weevils on the board. The score capped a five-play, 74-yard drive highlighted by a 26-yard connection from Forkner to Roberts and a 40-yard completion to Lott, cutting the deficit to 21-6.  

Third Quarter

– 04:08 – UAM | Henry found the end zone for the second time, scoring on another 1-yard rush to cap a 14-play, 80-yard drive that took 7:06 off the clock. The touchdown brought Arkansas-Monticello within nine at 21-12

Neither team found the end zone in the fourth quarter, eventually concluding the game with a 21-12 win for the visiting Storm.

Up Next

UAM will hit the road the next two weeks, traveling to Ada, Oklahoma in week two to take on the Tigers of East Central. The game is set for Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m.
