UAM Volleyball Drops Morning Match-Up with Texas-Tyler

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team opened play in the SBU Invitational on Friday morning in Bolivar, Missouri, taking the opening set before falling to Christian Brothers University.

FIRST SET (25-12 UAM, UAM leads 1-0)

Christian Brothers opened the match with a 5-2 advantage before Arkansas-Monticello responded with five consecutive points. Kills from Brianna White and Sophia Grubbs, a block involving Kylie Miller and White, and a service ace from Ella Cline helped push the Weevils ahead 7-5. UAM continued to build momentum, extending the lead to 11-6 and later 17-10 behind kills from White and Grubbs and a service ace from Isabella Garcia. The Weevils closed the set in dominant fashion, scoring eight of the final 10 points before UAM claimed the opener, 25-12.

SECOND SET (25-10 CBU, match tied 1-1)

The second set remained close through a 3-3 tie before Christian Brothers began to create separation. The Buccaneers used a 9-2 stretch to build a 12-5 advantage and continued to control the frame from there. CBU closed the frame on a 13-5 run to even the match with a 25-10 victory.

THIRD SET (25-23 CBU, CBU leads 2-1)

Arkansas-Monticello responded with a strong start in the third set, building an early 6-3 lead. Christian Brothers answered with five consecutive points to move ahead 8-6, but the UAM continued to battle. UAM regained the lead at 12-9 after kills from Garcia and Summer Stephens and a block from Stephens and Jalen Scroggins. The teams traded momentum throughout the middle of the set, playing through ties at 13-13, 14-14, 15-15, 18-18, 19-19, 20-20, and 21-21. Garcia then recorded a kill and followed with a service ace to give the Weevils a 23-21 advantage. Christian Brothers responded with four consecutive kills to steal the set, 25-23, and take a 2-1 match lead.

FOURTH SET (25-13 CBU, CBU wins 3-1)

The teams traded points early in the fourth before Christian Brothers broke open a 6-6 tie with five unanswered points to take an 11-6 advantage. Even with a continued fight from the Weevils, the Buccaneers steadily extended their lead. CBU pushed the advantage to 18-9 and later 23-11 before closing the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-1.
