Hildreth explained that a new motor was recently installed in a 2012 Dodge Charger patrol car on Tuesday. Two new vehicles are supposed to arrive by the end of the month. He said Monticello Police Department was also offering several used vehicles for sale. Chief Hildreth stated he did not think that was a viable alternative for the City of Warren.

“We don’t have the vehicles for full staff but we’re not at full staff either,” he said. He commented later that there are three patrol officer positions to be filled.

A discussion was held about the Police Department serving as emergency services for the entire county, including volunteer fire departments, plus doing some dispatching duties for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Department, the Hermitage Police Department, and operating the 911 system.

Reep explained that when the Police Department building was constructed, it was jointly owned by the city and county. The city later bought the county out, although the county pays the city $60,000 per year in contracted services.

Burks Frazer noted that the county receives the 911 funds. She said that amount should be considered in whether or not funding should be increased to the city. She said she would recommend to the full council that they look into the matter.
