NEW EDINBURG, Ark. – Members of Re-New-ing Edinburg gathered at the New Edinburg Community Center on April 15 for their monthly meeting, led by President Martha Tolano.

The group began by approving the March meeting minutes before diving into a review of recent events and upcoming plans. A major topic of discussion was the group’s participation in the Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt held April 3–5. Due to poor weather, members opted to rent booths at the New Edinburg Community Center instead of setting up outdoors near Stewart’s Store. Despite Saturday’s particularly bad weather, fundraising efforts were still considered successful, with volunteer hours totaling 207.5 due to the significant work involved in preparation.

Feedback from the Junk Hunt included concerns about the event’s large scale, limited signage, and route directions, prompting discussion about moving the group’s participation date to March in future years to avoid Easter and the All-School Reunion conflicts.

The Great American Pickup continues through May 31, with volunteers actively cleaning the community. Seventeen individuals are currently helping, and flower boxes are being replanted in town. The New Edinburg school grounds are also being cleaned in anticipation of the upcoming All-School Reunion.

The Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Fling, held on April 13, brought together 50–60 attendees for festive activities like a cupcake walk, egg race, and fishing for “ducks.”

Preparations are underway for the All-School Reunion set for Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Around 125 meal tickets have already been sold for a catfish feast, with expected attendance reaching 150–175 throughout the day. Volunteers will meet Friday, April 25 at 10 a.m. to finalize preparations.

The group approved a motion to purchase two new storage room shelves and repair locks. Roger McClellan volunteered to handle both tasks.

Several upcoming events were noted:

  • A BBQ/Auction fundraiser for Jeremy Reynolds on May 17, hosted at the New Edinburg Community Center
  • The Cleveland County Community Kickstart Banquet scheduled for May 22 at the county fairgrounds

The next Re-New-ing Edinburg meeting will take place on May 20.
