Celebrate Archeology Day set for March 28 in Monticello

MONTICELLO — A free, family-friendly event highlighting local history and archeology will take place Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pauline Baptist Church and Oakland Cemetery.

The event, titled “Celebrate Archeology Day,” will feature hands-on activities and educational opportunities focused on cemetery preservation, ancient tools, and weaponry. Attendees will have the chance to meet regional archeologists as well as representatives from the Quapaw Nation, Choctaw Nation, and Preserving African American Cemeteries (PAAC).

According to event organizers, activities will be held in the southern church parking lot and across the road at Oakland Cemetery. The event is being hosted by the Arkansas Archeological Survey – UAM Research Station in partnership with the Arkansas Archeological Survey.

The event is open to the public, and no admission is required.
