MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team dropped its Great American Conference opener at home against the Bisons of Harding University on Tuesday evening.

FIRST SET (25-21 HU, HU leads 1-0)

Arkansas-Monticello and Harding traded points early before the Bisons used a 6-1 stretch to take a 14-9 lead. UAM battled back behind kills from Sophia Grubbs, Isabella Garcia, and Brianna White, with back-to-back kills from Grubbs cutting the deficit to 20-18. The Weevils pulled within three at 24-21 before Harding claimed the final point for a 25-21 win.

SECOND SET (25-14 HU, HU leads 2-0)

Harding took control early in the second set, building a 16-5 advantage. UAM responded with three straight points, highlighted by a kill from Sophia Grubbs and back-to-back service aces from Kyonias Chambers. Grubbs later added a kill and an ace, while Ja’Miah Thomas and Brianna White combined for a block. Harding closed the set by taking five of the final six points for a 25-14 win.

THIRD SET (25-15 HU, HU wins 3-0)

Harding opened the third set with three straight points before Arkansas-Monticello began to chip away at the early deficit, pulling within one at 5-4. Harding responded with four consecutive points to take a 9-4 advantage. Grubbs added a kill for the Blossoms, but Harding used another 4-0 run to extend its lead to 13-5. UAM continued to fight as Grubbs added another kill and Ella Cline followed with a service ace to make it 15-8. Garcia later connected on a kill before White picked up a block, helping the Blossoms reach 11 points. Garcia added another kill to make it 20-12, while Grubbs recorded three kills down the stretch as UAM continued to battle. The Blossoms fought off two match points to bring the score to 24-15 before Harding closed out the set, 25-15, and secured the match, 3-0.

UP NEXT

The Blossoms travel to Topeka, Kansas, this weekend to compete in the Ichabod Classic. UAM will play two games on Friday, with the first against Drury at 9:00 a.m., followed by game two against Washburn at 4:30 p.m.
